In December 2025, Camping Trackers embarked on an exciting Northern Kenya reconnaissance mission. The goal was to identify private, picturesque camping sites capable of offering exclusivity, comfort, and authentic wilderness experiences for an esteemed holiday client. What unfolded was a story of adventure, connection, and discovery deep in Samburu’s wild heart.
From Nairobi to Samburu – The Road to Discovery
Our journey began in Nairobi with a clear objective — reach Archer’s Post by nightfall. The route through Nanyuki and Isiolo set the rhythm of travel, blending familiar stopovers with fresh excitement. Between stocking supplies, grabbing meals, and reconnecting with Gerald Kakuli of Africa Eco Safaris, the road reminded us of the bonds that tie Kenya’s travel community together.
By dusk, we rolled into Ngilai Homes, where the humid air wrapped the night in anticipation. The following morning, guided by Warden Moses of Samburu National Reserve, we explored Butterfly Camp — a shaded riverside sanctuary along the Ewaso Nyiro. Its peaceful surroundings and privacy made it ideal for a luxury nine-day camp, perfectly blending seclusion with the raw spirit of Samburu.
Every path in Samburu tells a story — not just of the land, but of the explorers who dare to find it.
Into the Mathews Range – Wilderness, Culture, and Challenge
Beyond luxury prospects, our mission extended to Ngilai Community Conservancy, where we sought a site for adventurer Grace Mwari’s October biking group. The terrain was unrelenting, pushing both vehicle and will. A local contact introduced us to John — a charismatic guide whose humor, knowledge, and navigational skill transformed the expedition into an immersive cultural experience.
The Mathew’s Range was as testing as it was breathtaking. With no network and Google Maps failing us, John became our living compass. Eventually, we reached Ngare Nebor — a pristine campsite near a natural spring pool. Its simplicity and charm made it a perfect fit for Grace’s biking team. The journey back was filled with laughter, storytelling, and the realization that Samburu’s silence is a rare kind of luxury — an escape from the world’s constant buzz.
